Dr. Sana Ghaznavi

Hi! Welcome to ProLaunch.

If you’re on this page, you’ve likely decided to commit to a journey in medicine. Congratulations on taking the plunge! While your next several years will be full of hard work, long hours, and sacrifice, they will also be some of the best years of your life, full of learning, challenge, and new friendships to last a lifetime!

My own journey to medicine started at the end of high school, when I made my intention to become a doctor known to my family and friends, soon after admitting it to myself! In undergrad, I earned my Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, and got into medical school on my first attempt, receiving offers from multiple competitive Canadian universities, including UBC, University of Alberta, Queen's, University of Toronto, and Dalhousie university.

After completing my medical degree at the University of Alberta (Class of 2012), internal medicine residency at the University of Calgary, and fellowship training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, USA, I joined the faculty at the University of Calgary as an academic endocrinologist. I’m now the provincial lead for the thyroid cancer program in Alberta.

I have over 15 years of experience sitting on the med school admissions committee in Canada, including:

  • sitting on the admissions committee in various roles

  • reviewing hundreds of applications

  • writing and designing MMI stations used in real interviews

  • serving as an interviewer for years (until 2024)

From the start of my career, I have enjoyed teaching and mentoring, and sharing the lessons of both my past failures and successes with others. I started ProLaunch in order to combine my love of teaching and mentorship, my enthusiasm for a career in medicine, and to embark on my own journey of learning something new (ie. starting a business!)
